Cathodic Protection Engineering Services

With the recent emphasis on Pipeline safety and the increased costs associated with corrosion related failures, the proper operation of cathodic protection is more important than ever. TCS personnel have the certification and the technical ability to provide the most cost effect cathodic protection system design that is possible for each specific project.  During the installation phase of a Cathodic protection system engineering services can be provided to inspect the quality of the installation and verify proper operation after the installation has been completed.  Specific Cathodic protection training can be provided to the operator that is new to the Cathodic Protection industry.

Close Interval Survey for Pipelines

In many cases, areas of probable rupture with underground pipelines have been identified by continuous pipe-to-soil potential profiles.  This method of testing and evaluation forms an integral part of many Total Corrosion Solutions, Inc corrosion control programs for transmission pipelines.  Cathodic protection monitoring and location of pipeline anomalies are results of continuous potential measurement and recording. The survey technique detects localized, active corrosion due to a variety of causes.  Areas, which do not comply with the pipe-to-soil potential criteria for full Cathodic protection, are also identified.  The use of microcomputer systems for data collection and processing allows for accurate measurement and new methods of analyses, which were not previously practical.

Pipeline Coating Inspections

Deteriorating coating conditions on buried pipelines compromises the effects of cathodic protection.  TCS personnel utilize state of the art coating tests to find these areas of coating failures.  The coating failures are identified and catalogued in relationship with overall coating conditions.  This enables the pipeline operator to focus expenditures on the worst areas of coating failure first. In addition to coating inspections TCS will provide services for internal inspections, these services include AGM Surveys, AGM Locations, Placement for Intelligent Pigging Inspections and Pig tracking.

Routine Cathodic Protection Maintenance

After a Cathodic Protection system is in place it is important to check the system for proper operation.  Each TCS technician has years of experience in performing these checks.  Routine maintenance is scheduled in advance.  Multiple checkouts will be performed in a geographic area, which further reduce the maintenance costs.

Data Management

Database maintenance and exception reporting are two of the ways that TCS corrosion engineers can help in your existing corrosion control program.  Planning, forecasting and budget meetings are a usual part of our maintenance programs. Regulatory Audit support is provided for the companies with limited personnel. This service insures that compliance is a number one priority even though the operator doesn’t have the personnel to devote full time reporting.
